Overtime win pits Mules against Okanogan at 7 tonight
The Wahkiakum Mules girls basketball team reached deep into their hearts in the fourth quarter to turn what looked like a lost game against LaConner into a chance for extra minutes and the win, 59-51 in overtime, in the semifinals of the State 2B basketball tournament on Friday night.
Poor shooting bedeviled the Mules throughout the game. They shot 27 percent from the floor, hitting only one two pointer and three treys in the first half. They were better from the free throw line, hitting seven for 11 in the first 16 minutes, keeping them within reach. Another six for 10 at the line gave them a 62 percent average for the game.
Kaylee Bryant continued her hot scoring streak with 18 points and nine rebounds. Tori Wegdahl scored 12, pulled down seven rebounds and had two assists and four steals. Peyton Souvenir added 11 points, one rebound, seven assists and seven steals. Baylee Olsen had nine points, seven rebounds, two assists and one steal. Sam Boyce scored eight, had three rebounds, two assists and two steals. Maddie Mace had one point and three rebounds. Jessica Thomas and Grace Peacock had one rebound.
The Mules play an unbeaten Okanogan for the gold ball tonight at 7 p.m. in the Spokane Arena.
