To The Eagle:
Apparently there’s been some confusion on two points regarding the Community Center in Cathlamet. And apparently I’ve contributed to that confusion. I’m sorry, and I’d like to set the record straight.
First problem: Is this facility properly called the “senior” center, or is it the “community” center? Or are there two separate facilities? Answer: It’s all one place, and it is the Community Center. The confusion stems from our morning schedule, which we have called the “senior center,” to differentiate these activities from our afternoon activities, which are aimed at students.
Second problem: If the morning schedule emphasizes “senior” activities, does that mean I have to be a senior citizen to participate? Answer: Absolutely NO!
Our planned morning activities (lectures, workshops, book discussions, potlucks) are aimed at adults, just as our planned afternoon activities are aimed at students. But anyone, of any age, is welcome to participate in these activities. Also, while planned activities are taking place in one area, other people may be doing other things in the background: using the Center’s computers or assembling a jigsaw puzzle, for example.
Bottom line: Please drop by and see for yourself. The Community Center is located at 101 Main Street, under the library in the space formerly occupied by the fire department. We’re open weekdays from 10 a.m., till noon and Tuesday through Friday from 3-5 p.m. We’re always looking for more volunteers to help set up and guide our activities, and we welcome suggestions for additional topics or activities.
