Vernon D. Tover

Vernon Dean Tover, 77, of Longview, died on January 28, 2015 at Hospice Care Center. He was born on Puget Island on September 22, 1937 to Oscar and Dagmar (Pedersen) Tover.

Vernon graduated from Wahkiakum High School in 1955 and joined the Army, spending three years in the service. From 1959 until 1986 he commercial fished on the Columbia River and in Kodiak, Alaska. He owned the Puget Island Market from 1964 until 1969. He worked as a Pile Driver Operator until his retirement.

Vernon enjoyed his membership in the American Legion and his time with friends at local establishments. He is survived by his significant other, Anna Clausen of Woodland; three daughters, Julie Fritch of Cathlamet, Marsha and Connie Tover of Shingle Springs, CA; a sister and brother-in-law, Amanda “Punky” and Larry Chambers of Longview; the mother of his children, Diane Tover of CA, an aunt, Bernice Ellison, two nephews, Greg and Roger Tover, a niece, Kim Forney, seven grandchildren, Courtney, Allie, Jordan, Jamie, Sean, Bryce and Jacob; two great grandchildren, Jackson and Harper and many other extended family. Vernon was preceded by his brother Alfred Tover in 2013.

A Celebration of Vernon’s Life will be held at Steele Chapel in Longview on Saturday February 7th at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Wahkiakum Historical Society P.O. Box 562 Cathlamet, WA 98612 or Wahkiakum Cemetery District #1 P.O. Box 122 Cathlamet, WA 98612. Steele Chapel at Longview Memorial Park is in charge of arrangements.
