Ferry may return to service on Thursday

The ferry "Wahkiakum" may return to service at 10 a.m. Thursday, Wahkiakum Public Works Director Pete Ringen announced late Wednesday afternoon.

Assistant County Engineer Joel Booth visited the ramp replacement site at Westport and reported, "that although the ramp is in place over there in the temporary location, apparently a few more things need to be done for the access to the ramp to be considered safe for public travel to the ramp," Ringen said.

"I feel it is OK to go ahead and get the word out that we are tentatively planning to operate the ferry beginning at 10 a.m. tomorrow, Thursday, the 5th of February," Ringen said. "I would strongly encourage Georgia Pacific and the public to double-check with Clatsop County and Wahkiakum County Public Works tomorrow morning to verify that we are running on normal schedule as of 10 a.m."
