Evelyn R. Dahl

Evelyn Rosemary Dahl, of Cathlamet, died at home January 24, 2015, at the age of 81.

She was born May 2, 1933 in Roseburg, Ore., to Lloyd H. and Irma C. (Moritz) Cornish.

Evelyn graduated from Sutherlin High School in Sutherlin, Ore., and was a purchasing agent for a nationwide construction company. She retired from Seattle to Cathlamet in 2001. After retirement she worked for a local law office for 13 years.

In her youth she was active with Girl Scouts, was a Job’s Daughter Past Honored Queen and Eastern Star with her parents who were very dedicated members. During her years in Cathlamet she joined local bunco, pinochle and knitting groups. She pursued her life long passion of books and spent many hours reading to grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a fiercely independent woman who by the age of 13 spent her summers in her Dad’s log truck. In the stretch between landing where the truck was loaded and the dump at the Mill Pond, she would drive the truck to allow him to catch a nap.

She is survived by a sister, Ila Gourley (Larry); a son, Lloyd R. Wahl (Becky); daughters Becky Thacker (Stan) and Lisa Moody (Karl); grandsons Zachary and Sam Wahl; granddaughters Lacey Johnson, Kylie Thacker, Danni Hyler-Smith and Kari Wallace; greatgrandchildren Keely Scott, Elliott and Ava Johnson, Madison, Gracie, Trinity and Abigail and Natalia Hyler-Smith.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, grandson Wes Thacker and granddaughter April Wahl.

A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, January 31, 1 p.m. at Dowling Funeral Home, 45 Broadway St., Cathlamet.

Dowling Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
