Librarian Carol Blix has announced that the Cathlamet Public Library is shifting their Preschool Story Time to 4 p.m., Thursdays, and in conjunction with the Cathlamet Community Center, providing a story-related craft downstairs immediately following the story.
“Ginger Hake, of the Community Center, offered the use of that space for a story time craft, which is larger and more flexible than the library’s children’s area,” Blix said.
Parents need to accompany their children, toddler to kindergarten-aged, to the Community Center to help them with the crafts, or to send a responsible family member to assist with projects that may involve cutting and gluing.
“It is so important for children to hear variety in the vocabulary of spoken language to promote learning. Pictures also provide that great link for them to connect new words with their meanings. Story time also familiarizes kids with notable children’s authors and illustrators, and increases a child’s listening skills, while craft time helps them to develop fine motor skills and explore creativity,” said Blix.
Parents of preschoolers are urged to bring their youngsters to story and craft time regularly to foster a love of books and reading that will last a lifetime.
