Down River Dispatches

News from Naselle

As I write this column, I can see a young eagle perched in a dead tree looking down at the flooded fields, hoping for an easy meal. We are flooded in with about three feet of water over the driveway. Oh well, such is life in our little piece of heaven. We were pretty much prepared for this high water event, and I hope our neighbors and friends are safe and dry. Guess I’ll bake some cookies and wait for the water to go down.

News from Naselle

Not such good news from Naselle as far as traveling in and out of that area. Lots of rerouting of traffic because of slides and a major road closure near the Naselle Youth Camp. No word yet on when SR 4 will be reopened due to the washout of the highway at about mile marker 4.

Students are back in class after an extra day off after Christmas vacation.

Sports calendar for the Comet teams this week: Friday, boys basketball with Oakville at 4 p.m. and girls basketball with Oakville at 5:45 p.m. in Naselle; Monday, girls basketball at Three Rivers at 5:45 p.m. and boys basketball at Three Rivers at 7:45 p.m .; Wednesday, girls basketball at Ocosta at 5:45 p.m. and boys basketball at Ocosta at 7 p.m. Go Comets!

With all the weather related issues and road closures in our area, you may want to contact the school to verify any events they have planned for the next couple of weeks.

Students will be released at 12:30 p.m. next Wednesday for in service.
