Lady Mules crush Toledo, Onalaska

The Wahkiakum Mules girls basketball team picked up two more wins last week to bring their record to 8-0 in league and 10-0 overall.

Regular season recommenced last Wednesday, January 7, after a long Christmas break as the Mules faced Onalaska at home and won 65-36. The Loggers came within one in the second quarter but were never able to take advantage as the Mules easily outscored them 17-6 in the third quarter and 15-5 in the fourth.

Sam Boyce led scoring with 19 points, followed closely by Baylee Olsen who had 18. Boyce added six rebounds, six assists and two steals and Olsen added five rebounds, two assist and one steal. Peyton Souvenir scored eight points and had four rebounds, five assists and four steals. Tori Wegdahl and Kaylee Bryant had six points apiece. Wegdahl added eight rebounds, four assists, six steals and one block. Bryant had six rebounds, one assist, one steal and one block. Grace Peacock scored four points and had one rebound. Savannah Burdick had two points and one rebound. Maddie Mace and Marissa Longtain had one point each. Mace added one rebound. Sydney Hansen had one rebound and Jessica Thomas had one rebound and two steals.

The Mules shot 51 percent from two point range and 42 percent overall.

On Friday, January 9, the Mules faced Toledo at home and won 60-33. The Mules pulled ahead in the second quarter 29-14 and never looked back.

Souvenir stepped up with back to back threes when Olsen went out of the game with a possible head injury. The sophomore had a great night, scoring a season high 19 points and pulling down 13 rebounds. She also added three assists, three steals and one block.

Olsen was checked for a concussion and deemed fine. After a brief rest she went back into the game and finished with 17 points, one rebound, one assist, three steals and three blocks. Boyce scored 12 points, had nine rebounds, two assists, three steals and two blocks. Wegdahl had four points, five rebounds, three assists, four steals and one block. Bryant, Peacock, Burdick and Mace all had two points. Bryant added five rebounds, one assist and four blocks. Burdick had one steal. Peacock had four rebounds and one steal. Mace had one assist. Thomas had four rebounds and one assist. Longtain had two rebounds. Mya Kirzy had one assist.

The Mules travel to Toutle Lake on Wednesday and play Adna at home January 15.
