Established as The Skamokawa Eagle in 1891
Wahkiakum hosted the Down River Challenge wrestling tournament last weekend with 17 schools and over 160 wrestlers.
Luke Stacey, wrestling at 132 pounds, was the first to take home a championship. He pinned his opponent in the championship round to take 1st place in the tournament.
Alex Johnson also won his way into the championship round at 145 pounds, to face the same wrestler he lost to last year in this event. This year was different, with Alex dominating from the start and pinning his opponent for the win and 1st place.
Rayanna Carlon also wrestled in the Ladies Bracket and gained some great experience in a big tournament.
Kody Vik wrestled at 160 and won his first two matches with a couple of cradle pins. In his third match he lost a very close one and injured his arm, ending his day.
Trystan Mendez was the final wrestler for Wahkiakum, wrestling at 195 pounds. He won his first two matches and then lost in a tough match. He later came back and wrestled into the consolation round, pinning his opponent for a 3rd place finish.
In addition, Alex Johnson was awarded the "Outstanding Wrestler" of the lower weights.
Congratulations to all the Mules in a great showing at our home tournament. Special thanks to all the staff and helpers that were a part of this year’s event - you put on a great show.
