Mule boys have slow start, fall to Napavine

Junior Ryan Quigley stepped up in Wahkiakum’s 52-77 loss to Napavine last Thursday, and proved he could contribute to Mule offense by adding 15 points, all in the first half.

Despite nearly matching the Tigers score for score in the second, third and fourth quarters, the Mules were unable to overcome Napavine’s early surge marked by a score of 8-27 at the end of the first quarter.

Brandon Budd and Quigley led scorers with 15 points apiece. Zach Brown added 11 more. Hank Ferguson had five points, Joey Moore had three, Brady LaBerge had two and Cody Terpsma added one.

None of the Mules pulled down more than two rebounds, according to the stats. Moore had two steals and Budd had one. Brown had one block.

“We got off to a slow start against a much bigger team on the road and couldn’t recover,” Coach Todd Souvenir said. “I thought we played much better after the first quarter offensively, but we need to work on our weak side defense and rebounding overall.”

“Ryan Quigley played very well in the first half before getting into foul trouble,” he added.

The Mules resume play on January 6 after the holiday break, facing Onalaska at home.
