Established as The Skamokawa Eagle in 1891

End of an era

To The Eagle:

In January the Skamokawa Post Office will not only lose half of the open hours but will also lose its leader. The Postmaster, LouAnne Johnson (well she was Johnson when we were in school) will have to retire. The long standing tradition of exceptional Postmasters and outstanding service will be ending. The days of receiving your mail even if someone made a little mistake on your address will be over. If someone should use your physical address instead of your post office box, you will no longer receive your mail even though they know darn well it should go in your box.

Back in the 60’s when I shipped out in the Navy, the Postmaster would throw away my junk mail and send the rest of the mail to my mother-in-law’s mail box. I didn’t have the sense to fill out any paper work before I left. That’s just the way things have always been in Skamokawa.

So to LouAnne and ladies (Jackie Emery and Barbara Eggman) that came before her, I say good job. And that goes for the very able assistants, like Lisa, that have been there as well.

LouAnne, enjoy your retirement and know you will be missed.
