N/GRV school board seeks levy renewal

The Naselle-Grays River Valley School District Board of Directors met for its monthly meeting on December 16.

After approval of the minutes and authorizing general expenditures, the board approved a resolution authorizing the placement of a maintenance and operations (M&O) renewal levy on the February 10 ballot. If approved by the voters, the renewal levy is expected to generate $715,000 per year for 2016, 2017 and 2018 at a rate of approximately $3.05 per thousand dollars of assessed valuation. The existing levy, currently $3.06 per $1,000, expires in 2015.

The district will receive a fully funded Study and Survey Grant from Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction to cover the costs of a consultant group to assess the condition of its buildings, analyze square footage, and review learning space.

Also approved were upgrades, and maintenance and repairs to the school’s fire alarm system.

Superintendent Lisa Nelson reported the district’s fund balance of $724,515 beginning the month of December, summarizing that the district is in good financial shape and has implemented measures to ensure for careful spending and utilization of the district’s resources.

Nelson reported the district’s population is 269 FTE grades K-12 and 45 virtual school students.

Naselle Youth Camp Principal Alan Bennett shared that residents are making personalized cutting boards that are for sale through the Appelo Archives.

In other board business, Chuck Hendrickson was voted board chairman, and Josh Holt as vice chairman.

The next regularly scheduled meeting is January 20 at 6:30 p.m.
