With seven seniors, Wahkiakum Mules girls basketball Coach Rob Garrett is feeling pretty good about the coming season.
They’re a smart group,” Garrett said. “They are leaders and they know what is going on.”
He continues in his endeavor to build a cohesive team founded on kindness and respect, and according to Garrett the girls are learning quickly that it’s easier to support a teammate than it is for the whole team to run when they don’t.
“We’ve been working a ton on defense,” Garrett said. “There are a lot of good teams in our league. We have to be able to shut some teams down if we want to be able to beat them. If we don’t play on both ends, it’s not going to happen.”
Garrett expects Toutle Lake, Napavine and Adna to be their toughest competition in league.
The Mules won both their games at the R.A. Long Jamboree on Saturday and begin regular season play on Friday when they travel to Adna to play the Pirates.
