Weekend art walk features two artists

Gail Wahlstrom and Jill Merrill are showing their art in the Luminari Arts Gallery opening this Saturday as part of Astoria's Art Walk.

They'll be on hand 5-8 p.m. in the gallery.

"Gathering" presents the joint efforts of the two Naselle/Grays River artists, who work with an environmental consciousness, using natural and repurposed materials, and capture the spirit of the northwest with their creations.

Wahlstrom has been drawing and creating since childhood, and delights in painting on organic surfaces such as birch bark, pressed leaves and feathers.

Merrill lives and breathes Willapa Bay through her art and her lifestyle. Her gathering is a series of screen prints with watercolor wash; she presents with a cluster of chanterelles, a scoop of mussells, a pensive heron fishing.

Both artists are founding members of the Tsuga Gallery in Cathlamet that currently boasts 30 members.

The "Gathering" at Luminari will have live music by Robert Stevens (guitar) and Michael Bruhn (mandolin), wine and light bites. The gallery is at 1133 Commercial, Astoria.
