Mules compete in district meet
The Wahkiakum Mule cross country team ended their season on Saturday when they traveled to Rainier to compete in the 1B/2B District 4 Championships. The top 25 boys and top 20 girls will go on to state. The highest placing Mule runner was Mya Kirzy, who placed 40th in the girl’s race.
In the boy’s 5,000 meter race, Mule seniors Luke Stacey, Elliott Haney and Nevan Bingham placed 69th, 74th and 77th respectively, out of 100 competitors. Stacey’s time was 21:22.59, Haney finished in 21:40.86 and Bingham came in at 21:44.36. The winning runner finished with a time of 16:15.63.
There were 82 runners in the girl’s 5,000 meter race. The winner finished in 19:34.32. For the Mules, sophomore Mya Kirzy took 40th place with a time of 25:00.04. Sophomore Shona Heywood placed 44th with a time of 25:15.98. Senior Jessica Thomas finished in 25:46.28 and took 48th place. Freshman Aly Kirzy placed 52nd and her time was 26:17.02. Sophomore Kyrah Scuito had her best time of the season, 30:45.45, and finished in 75th place.
The 1B/2B State Championship is scheduled for Saturday in Pasco at the Sun Willows Golf Course.
