Orval Runkle passed away October 22, 2014, from a long bout with Alzheimer’s disease.
He was born to Lona and Claude Runkle in 1927 in Colorado. Ray lived most of his life in Danville, Calif. He joined the Navy when he was 17 and was on a minesweeper in WWII. He later joined the Army, so he was an excellent salesman and also worked with the hydroplanes.
He was a very friendly person. He loved playing golf and playing cards with family and friends and telling stories of his very colorful and active life.
He leaves his loving wife, Sonja, of 62 years and his sons Steve and Craig; brothers Jack, Richard and John; sister-in-law Marilyn; his daughter-in-law Theresa; grandchildren Sonja Mae, Steve, Jason and Lacey; seven great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Ray’s family meant the world to him. His family loved and treasured him.
A funeral service will be held at Dowling Funeral Home in Cathlamet on Saturday, November 1, at 2 p.m.
