The Wahkiakum Mule volleyball team added a couple matches to their win column this week, beating Pe Ell on Tuesday and a tough Mossyrock team last Thursday. The Mules are 4-2 in league and 9-2 overall.
The team traveled to Pe Ell on Tuesday and beat the Trojans in three sets, 25-22, 25-21 and 25-11.
"Unforced errors plagued us in the first two sets but we became much more efficient in the third set to close it out," Coach Kayli Hurley said.
Libero Savannah Burdick was 100 percent from the service line, setter Morgan Elliott had 13 assists, Tori Wegdahl had 11 kills and Baylee Olsen had 10 kills and 12 service points.
Last Thursday in a thrilling match at home, the Mules held on to beat Mossyrock in five sets, 20-25, 25-18, 25-17, 24-26, 15-10.
"This was a huge team effort on the part of the Mules tonight," Hurley said. "Their energy and fire helped to carry them past the first set loss to a victory. It was a match we looked forward to all season. We knew how tough Mossyrock is and the girls came ready to play. It paid off."
Makenzie Anderson led the team with seven kills and two solo blocks. Kaylee Bryant had six kills and four solo blocks. Peyton Souvenir had three kills, 20 assists and 100 percent serving. Burdick also had 100 percent from the line and 11 digs.
"Our success is a team effort," Coach Hurley continued. "We win together and lose together with everyone contributing to the outcome, regardless."
"I'm very proud of our performance," she added.
The Mules travel to Morton tonight (Thursday) to face Morton/White Pass in league play.
