Mini Mules win again

The Wahkiakum Mini-Mules football team achieved another win last Saturday at Kelso High School, beating a Longview team 34-0. The win brought the team's record to 4-0 in league play, with two games remaining.

In the first quarter, Brody Carlson scored on a 35-yard counter to the left end to put the Mini-Mules up 6-0.

The lead was extended to 12-0 when Jake Leitz added a touchdown from 11 yards out.

Brody Carlson scored a second time on a 52 yard run, with Gabe Moon scoring the extra point run to finish first half scoring at 19-0.

After receiving the second half kickoff, Leitz scored again on the first play from scrimmage for 60 yards. Another extra point run by Moon put the Mini-Mules up 26-0.

For the remainder of the second half, the Mini-Mules second-team offense moved the ball against the Longview team. The game was capped by a 55 yard touchdown run by Dominic Curl on a quarterback sweep to the right end. Carlson's two-point extra point kick finalized the score at 34-0.

Ashden Neimeyer had a second half interception and led in tackles. The entire defense played incredibly, holding Longview to just a couple of first downs throughout the game and recovering two forced fumbles.

The team's win clinched a spot in the league championship game, which is now scheduled at Wahkiakum High School. The Mini-Mules will play a different Longview youth football team, which is also undefeated, for the league championship on Saturday October 25, at 6:30 pm. The Mini-Mules, grateful for the community's support at their previous home game, invites the community to come and cheer on the team as it attempts to win its first league championship in several years.
