Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the past week, including:
September 15 — 10:32 a.m. A Puget Island parent requested tests on white powder found in son’s bedroom. 11:43 a.m. A motorist complained about being run off the road in the Skamokawa area. 2:19 p.m. The Grays River ambulance responded to aid an elderly Grays River woman with respiratory problems and excessive swelling on one side of her body. 3:17 p.m. A caller reported that two cows were on a Puget Island roadway; the owner was contacted. 5:36 p.m. The PUD was notified when a tractor hit a transformer and knocked out power in the Rosedale area. 5:37 p.m. A caller reported threatening and bullying behavior at the high school in Cathlamet. 7:12 p.m. A Skamokawa resident reported that his neighbor was burning garbage in his back yard and that the flames were six to eight feet high; a deputy and the Skamokawa and Cathlamet Fire Departments extinguished the fire and advised the neighbor that it was an illegal burn. 8:19 p.m. A possibly intoxicated driver was seen headed west on SR 4 from the Longview area; deputies were unable to locate the vehicle.
September 16 — 8:17 a.m. A caller reported seeing a sheep on a Puget Island roadway. 9:01 a.m. A caller reported threatening and bullying behavior at the high school in Cathlamet; a deputy spoke with the subject and a parent and advised that further behavior would result in charges. 9:54 a.m. Workers requested a deputy’s assistance when they found a motor home and two large intimidating dogs impeding access to a site in the Elochoman Valley. 1:57 p.m. A caller reported a tree in a Grays River roadway. 2:13 p.m. An alarm was activated at a Skamokawa address; a responsible party said that everything was okay. 6:36 p.m. A caller reported witnessing a neighbor who was verbally abusive to his kids. 10:09 p.m. A Rosedale resident reported that a traffic sign was falling down.
September 17 — 6:40 a.m. A deer had been hit by a car in Grays River and needed to be dispatched; a game agent was notified. 3:16 p.m. An Elochoman Valley resident reported that someone had broken into his shop and stolen some items.
September 18 — 12:22 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid an Elochoman Valley resident who was having chest pain. 1:01 p.m. A caller reported that rose bushes had been stolen from a Cathlamet park; the caller was advised that it was a civil matter. 2:01 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid a confused Rosedale resident. 2:05 p.m. A caller reported that parents had been approached by a hostile and aggressive woman when they had visited the high school; the couple had requested that a deputy be on standby when school got out that day. 4:46 p.m. A caller reported that two people were loitering with their dog outside his Skamokawa business. 8:57 p.m. A driver with a suspended license was taken into custody.
September 19 — 12:04 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid an ailing Cathlamet resident. 5:45 p.m. A welfare check was requested for a Rosedale resident who had not shown up for an appointment. 7:26 p.m. A caller reported a westbound and erratically driven vehicle on SR 4 in the Skamokawa area. 8:25 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid an athlete with an injury. 8:39 p.m. A caller reported that someone had assaulted his teenage son at a sporting event in Cathlamet. 10 p.m. A caller reported debris on and next to SR 4 near Skamokawa. 10:56 p.m. A Puget Island resident reported a group of kids walking in the area.
September 20 — 12:51 a.m. A caller reported being followed in the Rosburg area. 2:52 a.m. A caller reported that a vehicle tore out of a driveway in Cathlamet. 1:52 p.m. A caller reported that a former boyfriend was on her property and had damaged her vehicle with a hammer; the subject was taken into custody. 5:44 p.m. A caller reported a young, injured animal; a wildlife rehabilitation center was notified. 7:41 p.m. An alarm was activated at a Rosedale residence by a visiting relative. 8:10 p.m. A welfare check was requested for a Rosedale resident who was exhibiting destructive behavior; a mental health advocate was notified. 9:56 p.m. A caller complained that someone in the Elochoman Valley area had been burning something that smelled bad the last two nights; a deputy investigated, and the fire was extinguished.
September 21 — 3:08 a.m. The District 4 Fire Department and the Cathlamet ambulance responded to a structure fire in the Rosedale area; the fire fighters were able to get the fire under control and a second ambulance was requested. A fire investigator was on scene at 9:48 a.m. 6:48 a.m. An alarm was activated at a Cathlamet residence; the homeowner was contacted and all was okay. 7:55 a.m. A caller reported a dead fawn on the side of the road in the Elochoman Valley. 9:04 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid an ailing Elochoman Valley resident. 10:51 p.m. A power surge caused a power outage in the county and the PUD was notified. 11:08 p.m. A caller reported that someone was threatening to kill himself; the subject was detained, and a mental health professional was en route. 12:11 p.m. An alarm was activated at a building on the refuge; all doors were found to be secured. 5:26 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to assist an elderly resident who was unable to get out of the bathtub. 5:42 p.m. A welfare check was requested for a Cathlamet resident; a deputy made contact with the individual. 6:25 p.m. A caller reported that smoke was visible at the site of a recent structure fire; the Cathlamet Fire Department returned to look for hot spots. 7:50 p.m. Deputies responded when a caller requested a welfare check after being told about a violent domestic situation in the Elochoman Valley; a mental health professional was en route. 10:07 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid a Cathlamet resident who had fallen.
