County, DNR lift outdoor burning restrictions

County's ban ends October 1

The onset of cool and moist weather has led agencies to end bans on outdoor burning.

The Washington State Department of Natural Resources (DNR) on September 25 announced that the statewide burn ban on DNR-protected lands has been rescinded. Fire danger has been reduced by the recent rainfall and moderating temperatures.

On Friday, Wahkiakum County officials announced the county's ban on outdoor burning would end October 1.

The county's announcement said, "Effective 12:01 a.m.., Wednesday, October 1, 2014, officials from Wahkiakum County will allow outdoor burning in accordance with the Wahkiakum Outdoor Burning Ordinance 122-94. The lifting of the current Wahkiakum County imposed burn ban does not apply to Washington Department of Natural Resource and federally managed land within Wahkiakum County."
