Pirates defeat Mules 28-20 in overtime

The visiting Adna Pirates pulled out a 28-20 overtime win Friday against the Wahkiakum Mules.

The Mules took a 6-0 lead early in the second quarter on a halfback pass from Zach Brown to Joey Moore. Adna tied the game and took a 12-6 lead at halftime. They added a safety for a 14-6 lead at 2:19 of the third quarter.

Brandon Budd intercepted a Pirate option pitch and ran 50 yards for a touchdown to bring the Mules with two points, 14-12, at 2:42 of the fourth quarter. Budd ran the conversion to tie the score 14-14. The fourth quarter ended with Adna missing a 30-yard field goal attempt.

The Mules opened the overtime with Gunnar Blix passing to Budd for a 35-yard scoring play. The conversion try failed.

Adna's David Young tied the game with a good run; the conversion kick failed, leading to a second overtime.

The Pirates took the ball first, and Young scored on another run; he also ran the conversion for a 28-20 lead.

The Mules' series ended with the running back taking a hard hit and fumbling away the ball at the Pirate 5-yard line, and the Pirates claimed the 28-20 Central League win.
