Michael Arthur Simms, 77, peacefully passed away at his home in Grays River, WA, August 8th, while surrounded by family and friends.
Born March 29, 1937 in Los Angeles to Lee and Margaret Lawrence-Simms, Michael grew up on the lots of MGM and Columbia Studios where he performed bit parts with Spencer Tracy in the Academy-Award winning movie "Edison, the Man." He also appeared in the popular "Blondie" series with his brother, child actor Larry Simms.
Mike loved the water and sailing. At 17 he enlisted in the Navy and served his country from 1954-1957. He owned two businesses that were in the San Pedro area: Mike's Marine Hardware and Old Nautical Wares at Ports of Call Village.
In 1976 he married Betsy McBride. In 1986 they moved to Grays River, WA where Mike will be remembered for sharing his good food and fun times with family and friends.
Mike is survived by his wife Betsy, at home in Grays River; four sons: Mike jr. and Vance Simms in Ojai, Rodney and Eric Simms in San Diego; a step-daughter Paula Elliott-Jorgenson in Redondo Beach, 10 grandchildren and beloved niece and nephews Sue Fisher, and Larry and Curt Simms. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Larry and a sister Cathy Pitts.
