Final lure coursing event this weekend on Island

The final open Coursing Ability Test (C.A.T.) lure coursing event of the 2014 season will take place this weekend at Misty Rivers Plantation, 117 Cross Dike Road on Puget Island. The competition on Saturday and Sunday will be open to all dogs, any breed or mixed breed, registered or not. A meet devoted to AKC registered sighthounds only, is scheduled for next month, Oct. 4 and 5. Both events are AKC sanctioned and sponsored by the Willamette Valley Basenji Club.

Dogs will run singly or in sets of three, competing with their own breed, chasing an artificial bunny around a random course on the 10 acre field. At the end of the day, the best of each breed will compete for the Best in Field award. The public is invited to attend, and well leashed dogs are also welcome as spectators. Racing starts each day around 9 a.m., but dogs who are not pre-registered should bring their owners in a little earlier to sign up. Paperwork for C.A.T. can be found on line at AKC CAT.

Registered contestants will park in back on the coursing field; spectators in front on the grass beside the driveway. Restrooms are available, and a limited amount of handicapped parking is available on the coursing field. For further information, contact Judy Brawn at 360-562-1925.
