New exhibit to open at Redmen Hall

Redmen Hall in Skamokawa has a new exhibit opening September 6 featuring three major local artists: Judy VanderMaten, Mitzi Christensen, and Nell Coulson. The exhibit - "All Over the Place" - will emphasize the varied ideas of these three highly talented women.

VanderMaten is a photographer who says that watching water has been an everyday part of her life and a main subject of her work, feeling she is recording Mother Nature's art.

Christensen also has spent much of her life on the sea, living on sailboats for much of her life. Her work is mainly in acrylics. She loves the dramatic colors and the ability to experiment until she is happy with the results.

Coulson has painted since youth and took up active work when she retired. She uses oils and acrylics, with a beautiful sense of color and natural drama. “There is no end to the journey in art, for the journey is what it is about,” Coulson said.

The exhibit opens on Saturday, September 6, with a chance to meet the artists from 1 to 3 p.m. Refreshments will be served.

The exhibit will run until October 19. Redmen Hall is located at 1394 SR 4 in Skamokawa, and is open Thursday through Sunday 12-4 p.m. For further information call 360-795-8675.
