Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the past week, including:
July 7 – 6:27 a.m. A missing dog was found and returned to its owner. 4:06 p.m. A caller reported seeing what appeared to be an unoccupied boat drifting on the Columbia River; while on the phone, the caller saw the driver sit up and take off after hitting pilings. 5:13 p.m. The deputy from Cowlitz County was on scene with the aforementioned boater at County Line Park and requested assistance; the boater met with a local deputy at the marina. 6:57 p.m. A man was seen walking in the middle of SR 4 in the Elochoman Valley area; a deputy made contact. 7:11 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance, District 4 Fire Department and deputies responded to an accident on SR 4 just west of County Line Park; a car went into a ditch after nearly hitting another vehicle. No injuries were reported. 8:00 p.m. The man who had been seen walking in the middle of SR 4 was reported again, this time he was seen sitting on a guardrail on SR 4 in the Elochoman Valley area. 10:07 p.m. A Puget Island resident claimed that he had spotted people throwing boards on his smoldering fire after the Puget Island Fire Department responded to the report of a brush fire.
July 8 – 12:01 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid a woman with complications due to diabetes. 12:59 a.m. A caller reported that someone was fishing just past Nassa Point after hours; Washington State Patrol was notified. 10:05 a.m. A large box van hit a stop sign in Cathlamet. 10:23 a.m. Deputies and the Cathlamet ambulance responded when a Skamokawa juvenile intentionally took too much medicine and tried to assault a family member. 10:46 a.m. A suspicious man was reported to be loitering at a Cathlamet business. 1:27 p.m. A resident who had been reported as missing was found in Oregon and taken into custody for driving while under the influence. 1:54 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid a Cathlamet resident who had an allergic reaction to a bee sting. 3:27 p.m. A motorist complained about a man walking on SR 4 near Cathlamet. 4:05 p.m. A Cathlamet resident was concerned about a suspicious male walking in the neighborhood. 6:19 p.m. Deputies, the Cathlamet Fire Department and the Cathlamet ambulance responded to the report of a man overboard in the Cathlamet Channel. The patrol boat was deployed, the man was picked up and his sailboat with four passengers was towed back to the marina. 6:48 p.m. The Grays River ambulance responded to aid a man with a high temperature.
July 9 – 4:03 a.m. The Grays River Fire Department, the District 4 Fire Department, the Skamokawa Fire Department and the Grays River ambulance responded to the report of a structure fire in Rosburg. 9:27 a.m. A caller reported that someone known to him was attempting to cash his tax return check. 10:45 a.m. A caller complained about a man soliciting money from customers as they left a local bank. 3:44 p.m. Deputies were requested for a civil eviction notice in Deep River. 4:42 p.m. The Grays River ambulance responded to aid a person who was ill. 4:53 p.m. A caller reported smoke at Rosburg structure. 7:53 p.m. The Grays River Fire Department responded to the report of a flare up at the site of a structure fire from earlier in the day. 8:12 p.m. A caller reported that a man was found in a shower at the Skamokawa Fair Grounds; he had been asked to leave and would not. 10:05 p.m. A caller complained about an unknown car parking in her driveway in Rosburg; while on the phone she realized she knew whom it belonged to and that it was no longer a problem. 10:18 p.m. A caller who was frightened reported that someone had knocked on the family’s camper door in Skamokawa.
July 10 – 2:27 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid a man who had fallen. 12:39 p.m. The Grays River ambulance responded to aid a Grays River resident who was having difficulty breathing. 3:54 p.m. A caller complained about a rowdy, destructive group who were camping and trespassing at the Covered Bridge in Grays River. 4:05 p.m. A caller was concerned about a woman pushing a shopping cart with three small children at a Rosedale business. 4:17 p.m. After someone called to report that there would be trap shooting at a Puget Island residence, another person called to report that the shooters were not using proper caution and had shot over her property and almost hit her son. 5:03 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid an Elochoman Valley resident who had fallen. 6:21 p.m. A caller reported an unattended burn behind the Skamokawa Fire Hall; a fire fighter responded. 6:54 p.m. A caller reported being threatened and harassed by a family member. 7:57 p.m. A person was suspected of using another person’s ID while being investigated for a motor vehicle accident. 9:50 p.m. A Grays River resident reported receiving an obscene phone call.
July 11 – 6:22 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid a Puget Island resident who was not feeling well. 8:32 a.m. A motorist reported a dog running along SR 4 near County Line Park. 12:02 p.m. A disabled dump truck was moved after blocking traffic on SR 4 near Flandersville. 6:08 p.m. The Grays River ambulance responded to aid a Deep River child who had swallowed a nickel. 7:25 p.m. A caller reported vandalism at his Skamokawa home, including damage to an apple tree and his gas cap; upon investigation a deputy told the resident that an animal had taken down the tree and advised him to get a lock for his gas cap. 9:34 p.m. A caller reported that a man had violated a court order to stay off her property, that he had taken a truck trailer without permission and that he had weapons. 11:04 p.m. A Rosedale resident reported that a juvenile was not home and therefore violated his parole.
July 12 – 11:15 a.m. A Rosedale resident complained that the neighbor’s dog was in her yard again; a deputy responded and talked to both parties. 5:19 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid a Cathlamet resident with hip pain. 5:54 p.m. A tree was down on SR 4 just west of County Line Park. 7:07 p.m. A landlord was angry that a renter had not vacated the premises on the date he was to be out. 9:55 p.m. A caller reported that a dead deer was blocking both lanes of SR 4 in the Elochoman Valley area.
July 13 – 5:20 a.m. A Puget Island resident reported that his boat and several other items were on a neighbor’s lawn, that chairs, two shovels and mail had been stolen and a mailbox damaged. He identified two males, one of whom admitted to being intoxicated and in the caller’s yard. They settled the matter civilly, and a deputy kept the peace. 11:03 a.m. A Puget Island resident reported that a man had relieved himself while trespassing on his property. 4:31 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid a Puget Island resident who had fallen earlier and was having hip pain. 5:05 p.m. A caller reported skateboarders on Greenwood Road. 5:32 p.m. A truck lost some of its load on SR 4; a deputy picked up debris while another made contact with the driver. 8:18 p.m. A caller reported a fraudulent phone call regarding student loans.
