Allen Cameron Edmondson, 86, passed away June 29 at his Puget Island home.
The son of Allen Candler Edmondson and Josie Williams Edmondson, he was born December 21, 1927, in Pearl River, Louisiana. He helped operate the family store and farm in Slidell, La. He served in the Army in WWII and was stationed in Adak, Alaska. After the war, he used the GI Bill to graduate with a degree in journalism from Louisiana State University.
He married Ruth Davis Edmondson, and they were together over 50 years. He worked for both daily newspapers in Anchorage, Alaska, at different times and operated a self published weekly economic newsletter for many years. He and Ruth retired to their Puget Island home. He was a large force behind the creation of the Cathlamet Downhill Corral skateboard festival.
He was preceded in death by wife, Ruth, and sisters Clara Edmondson Dees and Frances Edmondson. He is survived by daughter Judy Edmondson and her children.
There will be no funeral service, but a celebration of life may be scheduled.
