Redmen Hall re-opens with new foundation

The grand reopening of Redmen Hall in Skamokawa is set for this Saturday, June 28.

The hall had been closed recently for repairs to the foundation and a little painting. Now the Friends of Skamokawa are itching to open up Redmen Hall with their new exhibit, “Legacy of the Columbia River Fishery.”

Two more panels, as well as fishing gear and local artifacts, have been added to the Columbia River Fishery exhibit. The original exhibit, completed by local historian and writer, Irene Martin and artist, Keith Hoofnagle was well received, according to Pam Emery, a member of FOS.

The exhibit will run from June 28-August 10.

Still, there is more work to be done to Redmen Hall. A contractor is tending to the siding right now, but FOS has plans for more painting, a new roof and gutters. If you would like to support Redmen Hall, FOS is in the midst of a membership drive. You can find forms at the Cathlamet library, the Chamber of Commerce, at the Cathlamet and Skamokawa post offices and the Skamokawa store as well as the Appelo archive center.

FOS is looking for grants to offset the cost of continuing to make improvements to the building but they remain grateful for any donations.

Redmen Hall will reopen on Saturday from 12-4 p.m., with refreshments at 1 p.m. and a net mending demonstration from 1:30-2:30 p.m. They also plan to be open on Sunday from 12-4 p.m. and will resume normal hours on July 3, when they will be open every week, Thursday through Sunday from 12-4 p.m.
