Seniors vouchers available for Farmer's Market

Wahkiakum seniors will have the opportunity to receive Senior Farmer’s Market Vouchers this year at two different distributions. The first will be held at the Grays River Valley Center, 30 Rosburg School Rd, Rosburg on Monday, June 23, 1:30- 3 p.m., the second opportunity will be at the Two Island Farmer’s Market, located at 59 W. Birnie Slough Rd, Cathlamet on Friday, June 27, at 3 p.m.

The vouchers are funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and administered locally by Lower Columbia CAP in partnership with the Area Agency on Aging and Disabilities of Southwest Washington.

Eligible seniors are individuals age 60 and older, or age 55 and older if Native American or Alaska Native Elder with a monthly income of $1,799 or less if single, and $2,425 or less in a two person household, and a resident of Washington State. Applicants will be asked for picture identification to show date of birth and Washington State residency. Applicants will not be asked for income verification. A Washington State issued picture ID or Driver’s License are acceptable forms of identification. Proxy forms to designate an individual to pick-up vouchers for an eligible person unable to attend the distribution are available at the CAP office in Longview.

Vouchers will be distributed on a first come, first served basis.

Eligible seniors will receive $40 worth of vouchers that can be used to buy fresh fruits, vegetables and edible herbs at participating farmers’ markets.
