Established as The Skamokawa Eagle in 1891
To The Eagle:
This is intended for the people and voters of Wahkiakum County.
I am a lifelong member and supporter of law enforcement, the Republican Party, the US Constitution, and especially the right of citizens to have differing views. On June 3, 2014, the Wahkiakum GOP had its regular meeting. In attendance were our regular members and the county commissioner representing Puget Island.
During the meeting the commissioner listened but said nothing except that he wanted more people to come to the weekly commission meetings. The meeting adjourned at approximately 7:15 p.m., and I left.
Other members told me that as the door closed after me, the commissioner stated that now he could talk and proceeded to attack the sheriff’s office about vehicles, staffing, costs, etc., as well as other people and organizations within the county.
I am very thankful for the men and women of law enforcement, including our sheriff. I believe this commissioner has the opportunity to question all our county officials about the costs of running their offices on a regular basis. The fact that this commissioner would not state his opinion when someone was in the room to refute his biased opinion appears to me that he knows his facts are weak, and that his action is uncalled for if not unethical.
Let us all hope that he does not make a practice of this.
Remember at the ballot box!
