Self Help Housing program has openings

To The Eagle:

I just wanted to say what a wonderful response it was for the Self Help Housing meeting held on May 29 at the River Street Meeting Room. There were approximately 30 people in attendance and lots of people taking applications. This is such a great opportunity for our community to take part in such a worthwhile program.

Juanita and Greg from Lower Columbia CAP did a great job of addressing a number of topics and questions. This included credit, income, who can put in time building and how much building is needed. They also discussed that those who think they wouldn’t qualify may actually be qualified so they encourage anyone who this appeals to, should come in and fill out an application. They showed some wonderful photos of other completed projects that were just beautiful, each different in its own way.

Applications are still available and can be picked up at Wahkiakum Health and Human Services or by calling Lower Columbia CAP. This program works with families to give them the opportunity for home ownership that they would otherwise not have, by allowing them to work off the down payment and upon completion enter into an affordable mortgage.

If this is something that may interest you, we are still in need of more applicants so please call and talk to Juanita at CAP (360) 425-3430 x 222 or myself and Chris Holmes at Wahkiakum Health and Human Services (360) 795-8630, we will be more than happy to answer your questions. This is one of those opportunities that have come to our community and can only open more opportunities in the future.
