Reader grateful for opportunity to disagree

To The Eagle:

I have neglected for years to thank the publishers and staff of The Eagle. Sadly, I take it for granted that my paper will arrive on Thursday and I shouldn’t. None of us should take The Eagle for granted when printed news is threatened and small papers around the country are failing daily. I wish to thank The Eagle for their generations of continual dedication to our community. I am grateful for the clarity we find in our newspaper when reading The Eagle. As a reader I feel as though I am a participant in the ongoing issues confronting our communities thanks to in depth reporting by The Eagle. And so I salute the editor and staff of The Eagle.

Lastly, I wish to extend my gratitude for the fortitude exhibited by The Eagle in publishing letters to the editor. A forum where the public is given an opportunity to express their opinions. The opportunity to share even reasoned dissent is rapidly disappearing especially if the letters to the editor don’t share the spin or bias of that particular paper. Again, I thank you.

This doesn’t mean I won’t disagree with an editorial in the future, just that I will be grateful to have the opportunity to do so.

Sincerely,

Cynthia Lahti, Grays River
