Mule athletes compete at Naselle, South Bend

The Wahkiakum Mule Track team traveled to Naselle on April 22 to compete in the Comet Invite. The boys scored seven points and came in 10th place out of 10 teams. The girls were able to place sixth out of 11 teams with 64 points.

Grace Peacock took third in the 100 meters with a time of 13.63. Tyra Elliott wasn’t too far behind and took fifth with a time of 13.80. Peacock also took second place in the 200 meters with a time of 28.89. Elliott won the 400 meters with a time of 1:09.03. Shona Heywood placed third with a time of 1:12.03.

Shelbie Abbot placed fifth in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 59.06.

The relay team of Shona Heywood, Rory Heywood, Elliott and Peacock took fourth in the 4x100 relay with a time of 56.89 and second in the 4x200 relay with a time of 1:56.90.

Rory Heywood placed second in the high jump, clearing 4’8”.

On April 24, the team traveled to South Bend for a Pacific League meet to compete against four other teams. The boys came in second place with 62 points and the girls placed third with 53 points.

Austin Burns won the 100 meters and the 200 meters with times of 11.90 and 25.50 respectively. Nevan Bingham took fourth in the 100 meters with a time of 12.20 and second in the 200 meters with a time of 26.50. Eli Velke placed third in the 800 meters with a time of 3:03.10. Carl Kolditz won the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 19.70.

The relay team of Kolditz, Bingham, Burns and Ryan Quigley placed second in the 4x100 with a time of 49.80.

Ethan Cothren placed third in the shot with a distance of 36’2”. Jesús Crawford took fifth place in the discus event with a distance of 82’6”. Koby Cothren threw the javelin 113’4” and placed fifth. Quigley won the high jump event, clearing 5’4”.

Cothren and Quigley tied for fifth in the long jump with a distance of 15’11”.

In the triple jump, Cothren jumped 33’8” for third place, Kolditz jumped 30’9” for fourth and Quigley reached 30’1” for fifth.

On the girls’ side, Peacock took third in the 100 and 200 meters with a time of 13.60 and 29.90 respectively. Elliott placed fourth in the 100 meters with a time of 14.10 and Cheyenne Barton placed fifth in the 200 meters with a time of 32.00. Elliott won the 400 meters with a time of 1:08.8 and Shona Heywood placed third with a time of 1:13.90. Kyrah Sciuto placed fourth in the 800 meters with a time of 3:44.30.

Abbott won the 300m hurdles with a time of 1:01.40 and placed third in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 19.20. The 4x100 relay team of Elliott, Peacock, Barton and Shona Heywood won the race with a time of 56.40. They were disqualified from the 4x200 race.

Tarah Wisner took second in the shot put with a distance of 26’10” and fourth in the discus with a distance of 72’1”.

On April 25, Gunnar Blix placed first in the shot put and discus events at the Chehalis Activators Invitational. He threw for a distance of 40’2” and 122’2” respectively, scoring 20 points and taking 12th place out of 21 teams.

The Mule track team has been invited to the Strandberg Meet in Spokane on Saturday and will compete again on Tuesday in Ilwaco at the Pacific City Invitational.
