The Washington State Forest Practices Board, an independent state agency that makes rules regarding timber harvest, will hold a special board meeting on May 12, focused on landslide science and regulatory protections.
This day-long meeting will review what’s known about the Oso Landslide, consider the latest scientific information, and discuss the state’s regulatory approach to protecting public safety and public resources.
“As chair of the Board, I feel it is our responsibility to have an informed discussion and review the scientific basis of the state’s landslide protections in the forest environment,” said Aaron Everett, State Forester with the Washington State Department of Natural Resources (DNR).
The board’s discussions will continue at its regularly scheduled meeting the following day.
