Eighteen food bank volunteers earn presidential service award

On April 23, at the new community center, 18 people were recognized for their volunteer participation in the Presidential Service Award program.

These individuals served a minimum of 100 hours last year at our three local food banks. Four of the individuals were honored for earning the Lifetime Achievement award. This award requires a minimum of 4000 hours of service over a lifetime.

Those receiving the Lifetime Achievement award were Jimmie Lou Cleveland, Mary Dasher, Chuck Christensen, and Hans Fluckiger.

Bronze, Silver, and Gold award recipients were Tom Garstki, Kathy Tannahill, Mike Swift, Bjorne Rostad, Mitzi Christensen, John Doumit, John C. Doumit, Mike Tannahill, Esther Roche, Ruth Kimmel, Joy Ferguson, Sherrie Stewart, Bob Roche, and Wanda Rockford.

The award consisted of a lapel pin, certificate of achievement, and a thank you letter from President Obama.

This event was sponsored by Wahkiakum Health and Human Services, Commissioner Mike Backman and the Hunger Relief Task Force.
