Established as The Skamokawa Eagle in 1891
In what promises to be KMUN’s biggest fund raising campaign for 2014, Coast Community Radio commenced its annual spring Pledge Drive Friday, March 14.
Over 100 volunteers will be supporting the goal by going on the air or answering the phones or even providing sustenance to keep everyone refreshed.
“We’ve set a high goal,” explained General Manager, Joanne Rideout. “We will be asking listeners to help their community radio reach fully one-third of its annual membership total through this one brief appeal.”
As a non-commercial broadcaster, Coast Community Radio operates its three local stations by relying on funds from the community it serves.
KMUN at 91.9FM is the flagship station completing its 31st year based in Astoria, Oregon. Its format includes local news, public affairs and an eclectic mix of locally hosted music shows along with programs from NPR and other independent sources. Sister station KTCB 89.5FM carries the same broadcast to listeners in Tillamook, while the newest station, 90.9FM in Warrenton broadcasts a separate mix for a classical music audience.
“Members make community radio possible,” Rideout continues. “We call it radio of, by and for the listeners of the Columbia Pacific Region.”
In the weeks preceding the start of the Drive, Development Director, Susan Boac, has been in the business community amassing gifts to offer on the air as thanks to listeners who call with their pledge.
“The gratitude for Coast Community Radio comes not just from the volunteers at the station, but from the businesses who serve the community,” Boac added. “And we love offering their gifts on the air. It helps them, it helps us, and listeners appreciate the gifts!”
KMUN’s annual spring Pledge Drive continues until 3 p.m. Monday, March 24. A lineup of special programs and guests can be heard 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. each day of the drive. Information and pledge volunteers can be reached by calling the station at 503-325-0010 or 800-518-0010.
