The Georgia-Pacific Wauna Mill, located near Westport, Ore., has contributed $1500 to the Wahkiakum Sheriff’s office to be used towards the purchase of a Kevlar vest. The Kevlar vest will be used by reserve officers at the Wahkiakum Sheriff’s office.
The Wahkiakum Sheriff’s office submitted a grant request to the Georgia-Pacific Foundation.
“Safety is very important to us and we understand the risk police personnel are faced with every day,” said Public Affairs Manager, Kristi Ward. “We are proud that we were able to support the request and help make it safer for these first responders.”
“Our reserve officers play an important role in protecting our community,” added Sheriff Mark Howie. “We appreciate Georgia-Pacific’s donation, which will help protect these volunteer deputies who do so much for our community.”
The Wahkiakum Sheriff’s office has five reserve deputies. The department has been working through an ongoing effort to add and/or replace Kevlar vests for personnel.
