Local girl wins fifth place in national essay contest

Katie Stacey, a local homeschooled student in the eighth grade and the daughter of Lori and Matt Stacey, was recently notified of her fifth place finish in the National Patriot’s Pen essay contest. Her essay on the subject of “What Patriotism Means to Me” was judged along with 53 other state and territory winners. Her win comes with a $2500 award and a lot of pride for herself, her family and the local VFW, who sponsor the contest locally.
