Carl Johnson passed away February 4, 2014 in Olympia, WA. after a long illness with diabetes and dementia. He was born September 17, 1938 in Portland, Oregon, to Henry and Katherine Johnson. The Johnson family moved to the Elochoman valley in 1947. Carl graduated from Wah-Ki-Hi, Lower Columbia, and Western Washington University.
Mr Johnson worked as a sales rep in Spokane and a teacher in Washington DC. Returning to Spokane in 1968, Carl taught for Spokane Community College in the Spokane City/County Jail. After retiring, Carl and Kitty returned to the family home in the Elochoman; where they lived until their move to Tumwater in 2006.
Carl is survived by his wife Kathleen “Kitty”; sons Mike Jansen, Olympia: Chris Johnson, Madison, Wisconsin; and grandchildren, Madeleine and Ryan Jansen, and Ruby and Henry Johnson. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister Mary Ann Nedry; and his brother Henry “Hank” Johnson.
A service will be held in Cathlamet at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the Wahkiakum County Historical Society in Cathlamet.
