Mules wrestle at Lumberjack Tourney

The Wahkiakum Mule wrestlers attended the RA Long Lumberjack tournament on Saturday. The wrestlers came to the meet prepared for tough competition and it paid off, with three of the four wrestlers making it to the finals round.

At 126 lbs., Luke Stacey received second place. Luke’s first opponent was from Centralia and Luke won the match 14-2. The second match was Woodland and a win with a technical fall. The championship match was a loss to Mark Morris by pin in round two. This brings Luke to a 22-8 win/loss record for the season so far.

At 138 lbs., Alex Johnson took first place. His first match was with RA Long and Alex won by pin in round two. His second match against RA Long was a win with a pin in round three. The championship match was against an Aberdeen wrestler and also resulted in a win with a pin. Alex’s season record to date is 24 wins and 7 losses.

At 145 lbs., Mason Mackey won first place. Match one was a win against RA Long by pin in round two. His second match was against a Centralia wrestler and ended with a 14-1 point win. The match for the championship was a win by points against Kalama, 12-8. His season record as of Saturday is 23 wins and 6 losses.

Trystan Mendez wrestled 170 on Saturday and had two wins, one by pin against Aberdeen and the other by points, 24-14, over a Union opponent. Trystan so far this season has earned 19 wins and 10 losses.

On Saturday, the Mules will travel to Ilwaco for their last tournament of the season before Sub-Regionals on February 8 in Ocosta. The Regional tournament will held in Darrington this year on February 15.
