Mule wrestlers place third overall in Pomeroy Tourney

The Wahkiakum Mule Wrestlers headed over to the Eastside on Saturday to attend the Pomeroy tournament. The Mules placed 3rd in overall team points out of 14 teams from Washington, Oregon and Idaho. Wahkiakum had five boys wrestle and all placed in the top three of their weight classes.

At 132-lbs., Luke Stacey placed 3rd– Luke pinned his first opponent against Kittitas in round one and then had a points loss to Prairie 10-6. The loss dropped him down to the consolation bracket and he had to battle his way back through the bracket to get 3rd. Luke achieved this with two more wins, one against Tri City Prep with a pin in round two and Enterprise by a points win 11-1.

At 145-lbs., Alex Johnson placed 1st– First match was with a Colfax wrestler and Alex pinned him for the win in round three. The next match was against Pomeroy and was also a win by pin, this time in round one. The Championship match was a points win 12-4 against Clearwater Valley.

At 152-lbs., Mason Mackey placed 1st–Match one for Mason was a bye, second match was a Pomeroy win by points 6-2. Mason’s Championship match was also against a Clearwater Valley opponent and was a points win 6-2.

At 182-lbs., Nate Cothren placed 3rd– Nate’s first match was a loss by forfeit because the ref wouldn’t allow him to wrestle without a mouth guard due to braces; one was found before match two. This dropped him down to the consolation bracket and Nate came back through the bracket with three wins by pins. First was a Clarkston pin 33 seconds into round one, then a pin against Kittitas in round three. Nate pinned his Colfax opponent in round one.

At 182-lbs., Trystan Mendez placed 1st– First match was a bye, Trystan’s second match was a win with a pin in round two against a Kittitas wrestler. The Championship match was with a Tri City Prep wrestler and Trystan pinned him in the first round.
