To The Eagle,

I would like to respond to your recent article “Tarot: A guide to the past and healing here and now.” I noticed you had given this woman of the article some very generous exposure to her craft of “fortune-telling,” which is what tarot card reading is about. Maybe you will allow me the same gracious space to express what I think about fortune-telling.

When someone tells you your future by reading the tarot cards I wonder are they able to do this by a special gift that most of us don’t have, or are they aided by some unseen force, like an evil spirit or demon? There are hundreds of shows on the television about ghosts, evil spirits, demons, demon possession, and even Satan worship. And most book stores and libraries have a huge selection on these very topics, so I guess it is safe to say that there is some validity to the fact that some people are believers of the spiritual world.

There are many sources we can turn to self-educate about the practices of the spiritual world but I like what the Bible has to say about fortune-telling. In Acts 16:16-18, Paul the Apostle and Silas had an encounter with a young woman who could foretell the future by divination. It was discerned by the Apostle Paul that this young girl was able to do her craft by the aid of an evil spirit, so Paul cast the demon out of her.

Throughout the gospels we are told that Jesus Christ cast out many evil spirits in various situations. According to Ephesians 6:12, “We do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.”

In some realms the act of fortune-telling is an invitation to participate in the activity of powers that are not of this world.

If you are one that believes in the spiritual world why tangle with an energy that just might be from the pit of hell that could take possession of your very soul? No thanks!
