Lady Mules boost record to 6-0

Last week, the Wahkiakum Lady Mules beat three more teams in league play to continue their win streak and bring their record to 5-0 in league and 6-0 overall.

On December 18, the girls traveled to Pe Ell and beat the Trojans easily, 44-27.

Baylee Olsen led the team in scoring with 21 points. Kaylee Bryant added eight, Tori Wegdahl had five points and 16 boards and Tyra Elliot scored four. Peyton Souvenir and Sam Boyce tossed in three points apiece.

On Friday at home, the Lady Mules took on a tougher Morton/White Pass team. The Timberwolves were able to come within five at the end of the second quarter, but the Mules held on for the win, 59-43.

Boyce had a big night with 17 points. Olsen tossed in 13 and Bryant had 11. Souvenir and Wegdahl each had nine.

“I’m super excited,” Coach Rob Garrett said. “That’s the most we’ve ever played as a team. The girls relied on each other and there were hardly any selfish shots. Baylee was encouraging Sam to shoot the ball. That instills confidence. That is being a leader and a team captain.

"From the bench, Maya Stanley had positive things to say every time the team came over. I’m super proud of those two as far as their leadership goes right now.

“We got outplayed in the second quarter,” Garrett continued. “But our team did well and our girls adjusted. I’m stoked right now. The Timberwolves are a good team, a very well coached team and it was a convincing victory.”

The Lady Mules traveled to Onalaska on Saturday and won 61-43. The game report had not been received as of press time.

The Lady Mules travel to Napavine for a tournament on Friday and Saturday, December 27 and 28. They face 3A Bonney Lake on Friday at 2 p.m.
