H. Robert Olsen, 84, died at his home in Cathlamet on December 14, 2013. Bob was born to Harold and Phoebe (Hansen) Olsen on February 21, 1929 in Cathlamet. He graduated from Wahkiakum High School in 1948 and joined the Army. He was stationed in Korea during the Korean War.
On February 5, 1953, Bob married Vivian Wika and followed in his father’s footsteps as a logger. He worked in logging with his son, retiring in his 70’s after over 50 years. He had a lifelong love of horses and owned many over the years. He enjoyed over 25 years of family hunting trips to Colorado and was a devout basketball fan.
Bob is survived by his wife Vivian, a daughter Beckie Wolcott and husband Don, a son Bill and wife Shelly, a daughter-in-law Donna Olsen, a sister Shirley Grenfell, six grandchildren, D.J. Wolcott, Angela Metcalf, Brandon Olsen, Cody, Brieanna and Baylee Olsen, two great grandchildren, Cheyenne and Hadley Metcalf, and a large extended family. Bob was preceded by his son, Bobby Olsen in October of this year.
A private family service will be held. In lieu of flowers those who wish may contribute to the Robert W. Olsen Scholarship Fund at Bank of the Pacific. Dowling Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
