The Wahkiakum Mule volleyball team traveled to Lacey on Tuesday night for their first district tournament competition and came back with two wins to move forward in the winner’s bracket.
The Mules face Adna in Raymond tonight in a semifinal game.
The Mules met Ocosta in their first game of the night. If they lost, they would find themselves playing on Thursday in the loser’s bracket. If they won, they would play again that night.
They beat Ocosta in three, 25-6, 25-22 and 25-11. Then they turned right around and beat the Pacific League number one seed, Northwest Christian in three, 25-18, 25-12, 25-20.
Coach Kayli Hurley singled out Baylee Olsen, who had 12 kills and Maya Stanley for her consistent serve receive in the match with Ocosta.
The team was fired up after their first win, according to Hurley, and she praised Tori Wegdahl, who had 10 kills and five digs, Grace Peacock who had six kills, Morgan Elliott with 27 assists, Madison LaBerge who chipped in three kills, and Tyra Elliott who played “stellar defense.”
“This win was a great team effort,” Hurley said.
