Candidate for mayor tells his story

To The Eagle:

Since I am running for your mayor's office, maybe a short history of myself would be proper. I graduated from Wahkiakum Hi in '67. While there I served as student body president. I was awarded varsity letters in tennis, basketball and football. After graduation I went on to Clark College on a tennis scholarship. In '69 I won the state community college men's singles championship and was runner up in doubles, bringing the community collage state championship to Clark. I then attended the University of Portland where I continued playing tennis in what is now the Pac 12. I graduated from the UP in '71 with a bachelor degree in business management with a minor in accounting. In '72 I married my wife, Jean, and over the next few years had four great kids, all whom have received good education and have done quite well for themselves. In '73 we moved to Long Beach to work for my father, and in '78, I purchased the business (Active Enterprises, Inc.).

The next 31 years went very fast. During those years, I served the City of Long Beach as planning commissioner, councilman and mayor. Some of the other accomplishments I am proud of are serving as district governor for the Lions Club in the greater southwest Washington area, overseeing 52 clubs, and serving as board president of the Propane Gas Association of Washington, Oregon, Alaska and part of Idaho.

I am presently serving Cathlamet as a planning commissioner. In 2009 my wife passed away after a very brief illness, changing my life a lot. I didn't want to run the business anymore after her passing and asked my youngest son, Clark to take charge, and he agreed. So I came home to Cathlamet, living near the marina. I still help out with the business but only part time. I was raised in the two towns all my life, winters in Cathlamet and summers in Long Beach. I look forward to serving our town if I am elected.

Dale Jacobson, Cathlamet
