Charlotte House chocolate event will be this Friday

SUPER NICE--What a difference a week makes, as this weekend we had absolutely gorgeous weather, compared to the soaking we had the week before, so it was really great. The night-time temperatures were in the low 40s in West Valley, with lots of fog in the morning hours, but the sunshine that followed made it all worthwhile. With more rain due at the beginning of the work week, we can only hope that it clears up some by mid-week like they say it's going to, at least for a couple of days.

SPECIAL DAYS--Those celebrating birthdays from Oct. 10-16 are Jeff Baldwin, Justin McClain, Randy Kuhn, Dixie Anderson, Cameron Collins, Kristina Heiner, Curt Moore, Ivy Lou Vik, Betty Goodell, Heidi Knowles, Heather Knowles Ratcliff and Fred Nollan. May all of you enjoy your very special birthdays!

Happy Anniversary wishes this week go out to Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Reid, Mr. and Mrs. Brent Mahitka, Keith and Karen Lawrence, Joe and Sheryl Weaver and Mr. and Mrs. Bill Owen. We'll be adding Jerry DeBriae Jr. and Rosie Hicks to our anniversary list as well, as they tied the knot last Friday night, so congratulations to them!

GOOD THOUGHTS--We've got several folks who could use our most positive thoughts, good cheer and a few prayers as well, as they are going through various health issues at the moment. One of our favorite people, Betty Koziel, former Oasis owner and grower of fantastic begonias and other plants, is currently in a Vancouver hospital with a collapsed lung and hubby, Jim, would certainly appreciate our positive energy going her way. We'll gladly send them on her behalf and hope she's doing much better and will be back home again soon! Dixie Anderson and Kelly Nettles Recupero are both battling health issues also, so we'll be keeping them in our thoughts and prayers as well. Former Skamokawa resident, James Cheeks, was in a bad motorcycle accident awhile back and a benefit will be held for him later on this month, so we hope he's doing much better now.

FOOTBALL--The mighty Mules were able to hold off the Onalaska Loggers last Friday night with some terrific perseverance, as the Loggers had cut our lead to one touchdown and a two point conversion at the very end, so we were quite happy to see our team ready to score when the wise decision came to just run the clock out and not risk any chance of losing the ball and having them score. With temperatures dropping and the fog getting so thick at times that we could barely see the players, we were happy it ended when it did and the way it did--38 to 26--another win! Yeah Mules! This Grandma was happy to hear that grandson Austin Good was awarded the Sportsmanship Award after the game by the Onalaska Loggers, which I feel is always a very important and rewarding honor to receieve.

The Mules will take on the Napavine team, who are known as a very strong team, this Friday night at home, so let's have all the Mule fans there to show their support and cheer them on. Keep that Mule Train rollin' boys! The JV team will take on Napavine away on Monday, the 14th. Go get 'em team!

WARRIORS--The Warriors had a real nail biter of their own last Thursday as they were able to pull off a 43 to 42 win over Winlock with seconds to go after making a two point conversion; woo-hoo! The team would normally have a game today (Thursday - Oct. 10) but instead, they got a bye, so their next game won't be until Oct. 17, here at home against Toutle Lake. Here's to another great job Warriors!

GET CHOCOLATE TOMORROW--On Friday, Oct. 11 from 4 to 7 p.m., head to the Hotel Cathlamet's lobby and get in on the Charlotte House Chocolate Extravaganza. Tickets are $15 for adults, as well as for a box of goodies to go but tickets are only $10 for seniors and youth. All proceeds go to benefit the Charlotte House.

BINGO THIS SATURDAY--The Sons of Norway hopes you will join them this Saturday, Oct. 12, for Bingo at the Norse Hall on Puget Island. Doors open at 5:30 with games beginning at 6 p.m. Come join the fun and win some cash! Refreshments are available to purchase as well.

On Oct. 16 at 9 a.m., all members of the Sons of Norway are urged to show up at the Norse Hall and start making goodies for the upcoming holiday events. Even if you aren't a member but like baking and want to see how these Norwegian goodies are made, feel free to show up and give them a hand!

The group is also making lefse on the first weekend of November and selling it, so whether you're a person who wants to learn how to make it, or you just want to buy some, keep that first weekend of next month in mind, times to be announced. See you at the Norse Hall.

GRANGE MEETING--The Skamokawa Grange #425 will meet Monday, Oct. 14, 6:30 p.m. potluck with a 7 p.m. meeting. Two weeks from that night, the Skamokawa Grangers will host the Pomona Grange beginning at 5 p.m., followed by a potluck and then the Skamokawa Grange's regular meeting.NOVEMBER--If you don't think there's anything going on around here, all you have to do is wait until next month when all the holiday doings start in and every weekend seems to be booked with something! You know what that means don't you? Yep, Thanksgiving festivities are getting close and Christmas is getting closer, so we hope you've got your holiday spirit ready as you're going to need it to keep up with everything that's going on in the county. Here's a few I know about:

Nov. 2 there will be the Holiday Bazaar at the Rosburg Community Hall and it is always enjoyed by everyone who attends. If you'd like to take part in that, contact 360-4484-7723.

On Nov. 8 there will be a Veteran's Day Assembly at the Wahkiakum High School with guest speaker, Therese Pasquier.

If you're looking for a great breakfast, you can head back over the hill on Nov. 9, where the American Legion will hold their annual breakfast at the Deep River Hall.

On Nov. 15 the St. James Family Center will host their annual Holiday Bazaar and it's always a big hit with lunch items for sale and lots of homemade things to help you with your holiday shopping. If you'd like to help them out, or take part in this event, contact 795-3332 or 849-4181.

On Nov. 23 the annual Christmas Lighting Festival and the Festival of the Trees will take place in Cathlamet, and if you'd like to take part by decorating a tree, call 795-9996 and get your name on the list. If you don't want to make one to show, we hope you'll be one of the bidders of these awesomely decorated trees.

On Nov. 29 the Friends of Skamokawa will host their annual Holiday Open House and it will run Thurs-Sunday until Dec. 15, with special entertainment from time to time, so don't miss that.

DECEMBER--On Dec. 7 the Skamokawa United Methodist Church will hold their annual Holiday Bazaar, and on Dec. 14 the Skamokawa Grange will host their annual free dinner, so keep those two dates in mind; more info on them at a later date.
