Mules win at Adna, host homecoming this Friday

The Wahkiakum Mule football team broke open a tight game with the Adna Pirates with two fourth quarter touchdowns for a 27-12 Central League victory last Friday at Adna.

The game was tied 12-12 at halftime and remained that way through the third quarter. Austin Good scored at 11:18 in the fourth quarter on a five-yard run to break the tie; Gunnar Blix passed to Good for a two-point conversion and a 20-12 Mule lead. Good scored again in the fourth quarter on a 10-yard run, and Blix kicked the conversion for the final 27-12 lead.

The Mules took the first lead as Nathan Cothren scored on a 17-yard run at 6:11 of the first quarter. Adna tied the score at 2:07 of the first quarter as Cole Young intercepted a Blix pass and returned it for a touchdown.

The Mules went up 12-6 on a three-yard run by Cothren at 5:38 of the second quarter. Adna tied the score at 2:16 on a 12-yard run by Mike Thompson.

The Mules generated 321 yards of offense in the game, 199 yards on the ground and 122 in the air. Adna had 121 total yards, 97 on the ground and 24 in the air.

Mason Mackey led the balanced Mule rushing attack with 69 yards on 10 carries. Cothren gained 56 yards on 10 carries, and Good had 55 yards on 11 runs. Blix completed six of 10 passes for 122 yards and one interception. Seth Doumit caught two passes for 71 yards, and Mackey, Good, Cothren and Travis Wegdahl all caught one pass.

The Mules fumbled twice but recovered both; Doumit recovered one of Adna's two fumbles. The Mules had four penalties for 30 yards; Adna had two for 27 yards.
