Mules stay unbeaten in volleyball

The Wahkiakum Mule volleyball team travelled to Napavine for a non-league match last Thursday and beat the Tigers in five games, 25-15, 25-18, 17-25, 23-25, 15-10.

Coach Kayli Hurley praised Morgan Elliott who had 36 assists and 15 digs, and Baylee Olsen who led the team with 15 kills.

“This was a hard fought match,” Hurley said, “and shows how head to head our league matches are going to be this year. Even with the let up in the third and fourth games we came out fired up for the fifth and worked to earn the win.”

On Saturday, the varsity Mule volleyball team met with an alumni team for a competitive and light-hearted match. The varsity team won in three straight games.

The alumni team was represented by Patti Vanderwood Anderson, ’78, Janna Vanderwood Doumit, ’80, Julie Arness, ’82, Stacey Doumit Wegdahl, ’90, Charity Werthmann Kerstetter, ’93, Brandy Arness, ’08, Ashley Helms, ’10, Caitlin Niccolazi, ’11, Brianne Helms, ’12, and Ashley Silva, ’12.

On Monday, the Mules traveled to Toledo and won a non-league match 25-14, 25-7, 25-12.

Coach Hurley singled out Baylee Olsen, who had 10 kills and three blocks as well as Jem Dyer for aggressive serving and a completed passing average of 2.5 out of 3. Maya Stanley served 16 points and was responsible for eight digs.

The volleyball team was at home on Tuesday. They took on the Morton/White Pass Timberwolves in a non-league match, winning in three straight sets, 25-18, 25-11, 25-22.

Morgan Elliott had 27 assists and five aces. Kaylee Bryant had seven kills and three blocks.

The Lady Mules, with a 5-0 record, travel to Toutle Lake on Thursday (today) to play the Ducks in their last non-league match.
