Questions for the sheriff candidates

To The Eagle:

There is great interest in the race for sheriff. America is a land of laws, and a sheriff has the job of upholding our laws. Not always easy, and yes, a job-skill that requires a great deal of responsibility and discretion. But I ask; what if the judicial system above the sheriff makes their own laws and these office holders lack responsibility and discretion? There are two candidates for sheriff and this is good. Since both candidates have agreed to a public discussion, I plan to be there but state my questions now and will listen to their answers.

1. Were you involved with the investigation of misappropriated funds by Karl and Lisa Moody from the fire department managed by Mr. Faubion and his private law office?

2. Was it right for the district court judge to get involved before a police investigation of these misappropriated funds?

3. Do you think it is in the best interest of Wahkiakum County that Mr. Faubion is both a practicing lawyer in the county and the district court judge? His conduct would appear to create conflicts of interest.

4. Since both Mr. Bigelow and Mr. Faubion were involved with the (mis-) management of fire department funds, how far should citizens go in allowing abuses of the law and these, their offices? Again, perhaps their laws!

5. Would Wahkiakum County be best served from a legal perspective and providing the proper exercise of your duties if one or both men were removed from office?
