Established as The Skamokawa Eagle in 1891
Redmen Hall is starting its fall season with an exhibit by Mike Cullom, well known photographer and carver. His exhibit will open with a reception Saturday, September 7 where he will be demonstrating his carving techniques.
He recently returned from an extensive trip to Europe with photographs of people and places encountered on that trip, and will also show his beautiful landscapes of the Pacific Northwest.
Influenced by the writing of Helen Keller, he has titled his exhibit, "So Much to See" from an article she wrote in Atlantic Monthly in 1933. She says "...it is a great pity that in the world of light, the gift of sight is used...as a mere convenience rather than a means of adding fullness to life."
Mike searches for that fullness both in his photographs and his carvings and gives us the result of his discoveries. His statement shows his understanding of the photographer's responsibility: "The photographs in my show comprise a varied lot of images...capturing people, incidents, and natural beauty that have produced moments of satisfaction...for me as I've roamed around with my camera." This is an unusually beautiful exhibit of understanding what the world of sight can show us.
The exhibit opens Saturday, September 7 at Redmen Hall in Skamokawa, and runs until October 20 with carving demonstrations most Saturdays. The hall is open Thursday through Sunday from 12 noon to 4 p.m. and is located at 1394 SR 4.
